Project Description:
3 story health and fitness
center
Size: :
Approximately 54,000 square feet (first floor area all others
varied)
Construction Description:
- The first two
floors consisted of 16” precast plank spanning 40’ to precast
beams and columns. A portion of the third floor was recessed 2’
to accommodate basketball courts. The 16” precast plank was used
to help control vibration in the floor, since large portions of
the floors will have aerobic activity.
- Precast double
Tees were utilized at the third floor over the pool areas to
accommodate a clear span of approximately 78’ over the pools, to
control vibration above and corrosion from pool below.
- The mezzanine
level was constructed with steel beams and composite deck.
- The roof
consisted primarily steel joists and joist girders with the
joists over the basketball courts clear spanning approximately
125’.
- Masonry walls
around the elevator and stairs were used both as bearing walls
and for lateral stability.
- At the north
and south ends of the building steel cross bracing was used for
lateral stability. At the North entry, lateral loads were
transferred to concrete shear wall for the lower floors.
